OMOWALE: A PRAISE SONG FOR MALCOLM X is a dramatic and lyrical narrative of the life of Malcolm X. Drawing from his autobiography and socio-political thought, The African Stage Ensemble displays the relevance of Malcolm X to the present movement for social justice & Human Rights.
EL HAJJ MALIK was developed from a Stanford University MFA Improvisational Theatre class in 1967. The first full-scripted production was presented by the New Orleans based Dashiki Project Theatre at Dillard University in 1968. It was published in the 1969 anthology NEW PLAYS FROM THE BLACK THEATRE, edited by playwright Ed Bullins.
EL HAJJ MALIK has received productions from mainly College & University Theatre's and African-American Community Theatres. EL HAJJ MALIK was the first theatrical representation, stage or film, of the life of Malcolm X.
